The Houston Dynamo’s playoff hopes took a big hit in a 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.
Starters
Jonathan Bond - 7
Bond made an impressive 6 saves, even though he conceded two goals. The set piece was well taken for the first goal and unfortunate own goal led to the game-winner.
Griffin Dorsey - 5
Dorsey was pretty quiet in his hometown. He only had one shot-creating action on the night, which speaks to how well Colorado contained him.
Antonio Carlos - 7
The Brazilian had a great first half, making some key plays to snuff out scoring chances. Unfortunately, he had to come out at halftime with a groin injury.
Erik Sviatchenko - 6.5
Sviatchenko led the team with six clearances. The coaching staff probably didn’t expect to play him the full 90 minutes but the Antonio Carlos injury made Erik irreplaceable.
Felipe Andrade - 6.5
The own goal wasn’t his fault but that’s what happens sometimes with defenders. Besides that, Andrade had a solid game.
Artur - 2
Artur uncharacteristically completed less than 80 percent of his passes and then got sent off in the final seconds of the game, making him unavailable for a key game this week. You can’t do that as a captain.
Brooklyn Raines - 6
Raines was much better on the ball than Artur in this match but he didn’t have much going forward.
Lawrence Ennali - 7.5
The German was quiet for a lot of the match but his ability to get space and serve a ball to McGlynn at the back post showed what he’s capable of.
Jack McGlynn - 8.5
McGlynn was exceptional. He scored the Dynamo goal and also had seven shot-creating actions and nine progressive passes. He basically was the Houston offense.
Ondrej Lingr - 6
After a big game last week, Lingr was quieter in Colorado. He had two shots but wasn’t able to create as much as we have seen from him lately.
Ezequiel Ponce - 5.5
Ponce had some shots but couldn’t get anything on target. He only had 21 touches on the night, not close to enough what you want from your DP striker.
Substitutes
Pablo Ortiz - 5
Ortiz came on at the half and was good defensively. His passing, however, remains very sketchy when he’s under pressure.
Duane Holmes - 5
Holmes gives this team something different in the attack. But when you only have 5 touches, you aren’t going to be able to add much.
Sebastian Kowalczyk - N/A
Kowalczyk came on in the final moments of the match.
Head Coach
Ben Olsen - 6
The Dynamo had over 2 xG in this match and could only score once. They simpy have to be more clinical on offense and not fall asleep in moments on defense.
