While the rumored trade of Brooklyn Raines yet to be finalized, the Houston Dynamo still had a very busy Thursday. Houston added two Homegrown Players, traded a Homegrown, and added five players in the MLS SuperDraft.
Thursday began with the Dynamo signing two new Homegrown Players, the 18th and 19th Dynamo Academy products to sign as HGPs. Goalkeeper Logan Erb returns to Houston after playing collegiately at North Carolina State. The Humble native was the 2025 ACC Goalkeeper of the Year and helped the Wolfpack advance to last week’s NCAA Championship Game. Erb led the conference in shutouts (12), saves (58) and save percentage (82%). He also earned All-South Region honors after being named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA D1 Men’s All-South Region First Team. Erb joined the Dynamo Academy at 13 years old and featured for Dynamo 2 in 2022, where he recorded his first professional clean sheet.
The second Homegrown Player of the day was defender Reese Miller. The defender, from Missouri City, played his college soccer at the University of Virginia. Miller joined the Dynamo Academy at the U-11 level and worked his way up to making nine appearances for Dynamo 2 in 2022. At Virginia, Miller made 55 appearances (42 starts), while recording six goals and five assists.
Before the MLS SuperDraft got underway, the Dynamo made a trade, sending Homegrown defender Logan Sargeant to San Diego FC in exchange for in exchange for a third-round pick in the SuperDraft. Houston will retain a sell-on percentage for Sargeant and could receive up to $50,000 in General Allocation Money if certain incentives are met. Sargeant, a League City native, spent the 2024 season on loan with USL Championship side Lexington SC after signing with the Dynamo first team.
Going into the SuperDraft the Dynamo did not have a first round pick after trading it last offseason for Michael Halliday. As the draft started, Houston traded into the first round, sending $75,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money and $75,000 in 2027 General Allocation Money to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for the 11th overall pick. With the 11th pick, the Dynamo selected forward Joe Highfield from the University of Portland. Highfield scored 18 goals and added 8 assists in two seasons at Portland.
In the second round, Houston took wingback Calem Tommy from North Carolina State. Tommy, from South Africa, spent four seasons with the Wolfpack (and played with Logan Erb). He made 72 appearances (48 starts). He had a career high 8 assists in 2025. The Dynamo had three picks in the third round and took center back Agustin Resch from Seton Hall, attacking midfielder Austin Brummett from UConn, and midfielder Gilberto Rivera from San Jose State. The five draft picks will now be in negotiations with the Dynamo and join the club for preseason. Look for the majority, if not all of them, to play for Dynamo 2 in 2026.
