The Houston Dynamo have announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Agustin Bouzat. The 31-year-old joins from Velez Sarsfield in Argentina. Bouzat joins the Dynamo on a full transfer through June 2028 with an option through June 2029.
“Agustín has lifted six major trophies across South America with three different clubs, most recently captaining CA Vélez to a historic treble in 2024,” said President of Soccer Pat Onstad. “Agustín is a relentless competitor who embodies the qualities we value most – a leader who elevates standards every day and knows what it takes to win. We are excited to welcome Agustín and his family to Houston and look forward to contributions to push this Club towards our goal of competing for trophies in 2026 and beyond.”
Bouzat, a defensive minded midfielder, was captain at Velez Sarsfield. He also spent time in Argentina with Liniers, Boca Juniors, and Defensa y Justicia. He had a loan spell in Chile with Colo-Colo in the 2022-2023 season.
Bouzat will theoretically slot into the midfield where Brooklyn Raines played. Raines was traded to the New England Revolution earlier this month for $2 million. With Hector Herrera’s rumored return, it will be he and Bouzat who feature in the midfield in most matches, with Herrera likely playing less matches and minutes at this stage of his career.
