Houston Dynamo Take Red-Hot Form to New England

The Houston Dynamo will look to stay unbeaten since the World Cup break and pick up their third consecutive win as they take on the New England Revolution this afternoon. The Dynamo picked up a 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City last weekend. New England drew 2-2 against Montreal in their last match.

Flying Form

It may have been two teams lingering below the playoff line but the Dynamo have won both their last two matches in convincing fashion, without allowing a goal. Houston is playing the best it has all season and has climbed to fourth place in the Western Conference Standings. New England, who currently sit third in the Eastern Conference, will be a big road test for the Dynamo. If Houston can pick up points here, it will go a long way in establishing that they are a contender this season.

Depth in Numbers

In last week’s win over Kansas City, Mateusz Bogusz was not available and Ondrej Lingr, Diadie Samassekou, Erik Sviatchenko, Aliyu Ibrahim, Duane Holmes, Franco Negri, and Duncan McGuire were all on the bench. That is so many options for Ben Olsen and the coaching staff. Olsen said on Friday that Bogusz is back and available and defender Antonio Carlos is also healthy and could return to action today. You’d have to go back many years to find a more talented, and deep, Dynamo team.

Gil Be A Handful

Former MLS MVP Carles Gil may be 33-years-old now but he is still one of the most dynamic midfielders in the league. Olsen said as much on Friday. He called Gil one of the most fun players to watch, unless you are scouting and game planning for him. Gil leads the Revolution with seven goals and also has three assists. He’ll sit in front of former Dynamo midfielder Brooklyn Raines and behind striker Dor Turgeman in a New England attack that could have Houston on its heels if they aren’t prepared.
