The Houston Dynamo won their first Texas Derby of 2026 after a 3-0 win over Austin. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.
Starters
Jonathan Bond - 8
Probably Bond’s best performance of the season. He looked poised and confident throughout, making the saves Houston needed and commanding his box well. A clean sheet in the Texas Derby makes it even better.
Lawrence Ennali - 7
He didn’t offer much going forward, but Ennali handled his defensive responsibilities well and helped neutralize Austin’s attack.
Lucas Halter - 7
Another composed performance from Halter. He was strong in his duels and helped keep Austin from creating much danger through the middle.
Agustin Resch - 6.5
Resch continues to win practically everything in the air. For a rookie, he looks incredibly comfortable and confident at the back.
Felipe Andrade - 6
Solid defensively and stayed disciplined, but he didn’t have as much influence going forward as we’ve seen from him. Andrade did his job and helped keep Austin’s attack quiet.
Diadie Samassekou - 6
Doing the dirty work for the team. Samassekou covered ground, broke up plays, and helped Houston maintain its defensive shape.
Hector Herrera - 7
HH played all 90 minutes in his 100th game for Houston. Just Hector doing Hector things, controlling the midfield, making smart passes and providing his usual experience.
Agustin Bouzat - 7.5
An all-terrain player. Bouzat was everywhere, helping defensively, connecting play and finding ways to contribute wherever Houston needed him.
Guilherme - 8.5
What a week for the Brazilian playmaker. He got an invite to the All-Star Game and then delivered with a goal and an assist in the Texas Derby. Guilherme is starting to show just how special he can be.
Mateusz Bogusz - 9
A massive night for Bogusz as he scored his first brace with the Dynamo. He took his chances well and was a constant threat. This is the kind of performance Houston brought him in for.
Ezequiel Ponce - 7
Ponce does just about everything well except score. He set up Bogusz beautifully for the first goal, linked play and battled all night, but somehow remains scoreless in the regular season.
Substitutes
Artur - 6
The captain came in to help Houston manage the midfield and protect the lead. He did the simple things well without needing to take over the match.
Jack McGlynn - 5.5
He had limited time to make an impact but helped Houston maintain possession and see out the match.
Duncan McGuire - 5.5
McGuire worked hard after coming on but didn’t have many opportunities to influence the attack with Houston already comfortably ahead.
Erik Sviatchenko and Ondrej Lingr - N/A
Both had limited minutes and little opportunity to make a significant impact.
Head Coach
Ben Olsen - 8
Olsen’s game plan worked to perfection: play the long ball and attack in transition. Austin had no answer for Houston’s direct approach, and by the 33rd minute, the Dynamo were already up 3-0. Houston was comfortable giving Austin the ball for much of the game because the visitors simply couldn’t find a response. A perfect tactical performance in the Texas Derby.
