The Houston Dynamo’s playoff hopes were given some life after a 1-0 win over the Portland Timbers on Saturday night. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.
Starters
Jonathan Bond - 7.5
Bond made three saves to post a clean sheet. Portland hit the post a few times but Bond was big in goal in a game the Dynamo desperately needed.
Griffin Dorsey - 8
Dorsey was involved in the attack all night with 7 progressive carries, 5 progressive passes, and 8 shot-creating actions.
Pablo Ortiz - 7
Ortiz was so good on the ball, not making any mistakes as we have seen from him in past games. He and Sviatchenko play well together as a pairing.
Erik Sviatchenko - 7.5
Sviatchenko is just a rock for the Dynamo. When he plays they are tough to break down and score on. His health will be key in this run to the playoffs.
Felipe Andrade - 7
Andrade is becoming a very good left back in Major League Soccer. He loves to get forward into the attack and his defense is getting better every week.
Junior Urso - 7.5
Urso stepped in for the suspended Artur and looked the best we have seen him in Dynamo orange. He completed 94% of his passes with 7 progressive passes to go along with 4 clearances.
Brooklyn Raines - 6.5
Raines didn’t stand out but sometimes that is more than fine from your central midfield when the other players are producing. He will now head to the U20 World Cup and miss games.
Lawrence Ennali - 7.5
Ennali is improving every week and has locked down the left wing position for Houston. He was successful on all 3 of his take-ons in this match and only misplaced 2 passes.
Jack McGlynn - 9 (Player of the Match)
What else is there to say about McGlynn? He got the assist on Ponce’s goal and was incredible in this match. He had 12 shot-creating actions and was dangerous every time he touched the ball.
Ondrej Lingr - 6.5
This is two quiet games in a row now for Lingr. With McGlynn taking up a lot of the attacking duties and playing more central, it leaves Lingr in a bit of an odd position, but he did well in this match.
Ezequiel Ponce - 7.5
Ponce got the game’s only goal with a well placed header from McGlynn’s corner. He didn’t touch the ball much but did manage to get off 6 shots.
Substitutes
Amine Bassi - 6.5
Bassi looked solid coming in for Lingr. He was calm on the ball and was efficient when he played passes to keep the Dynamo in possession.
Duane Holmes - 6.5
Holmes is such a nice piece to bring off the bench. He only had 5 touches again in this match, in his 11 minutes, but his ability to stretch defenses and create space is vital.
Femi Awodesu and Diadie Samassekou - N/A
Both came on in the final moments of the match, with Samassekou making his Dynamo debut.
Head Coach
Juan Guerra - 8
Guerra was acting head coach for this match with Ben Olsen suspended. The game plan the coaching staff put together during the week was solid and Guerra steered the ship for an important three points.
