HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN

On the result:

“It is a shutout, and that is two shutouts in a row after giving up a lot of goals. There was a refocus with this group on the defensive side in what we look like without the ball and how collective we look after each other. That part was really good over the course of the night. We knew San Diego was going to have the lion's share of the game because of the way they play, and there were going to be transition moments. We could have had a few more transition moments than we did to get that second goal to make our lives a little bit easier. Then we have to take care of the ball and do a better job of understanding when it's time to go against the team that leaves themselves exposed and when to just possess the ball, put our stamp on the game and make them work hard. Down the stretch, we did so much defending and got tired, but we were gutsy, we hung in there and we defended the box really well. Three points are hard to get in this league, especially against a good team. That is three wins in a row with the U.S. Open Cup, and now we are starting to feel like we can win games in different ways.”

On the defensive performance:

“[Agustin] Resch had another good game for a kid who was drafted in the third round. Antônio [Carlos] really led tonight in the locker room, in the lead-up and on the field. On the field and in the box, I thought he was fantastic. Put Felipe [Andrade] in that mix too. He is a warrior, a fighter and a good isolation defender out there.”

On the team making progress:

“From a win-loss standpoint, we are, and from an out-of-possession, defensive resiliency perspective, we are moving in the right direction. We now have to find the balance of that and push our offensive attacks to put up some numbers. We have the chance to do that now.”

On Aliyu Ibrahim:

“We are thrilled that (Aliyu Ibrahim) scored a goal after bringing him back here. He is a versatile player, and we knew we were going to use him, whether it is as a wingback or wide midfielder. We know he can play up high and do a job there, too. He’s a real Swiss Army Knife for us. I have a soft spot for him because he is such a great kid, and we want him to have success here and contribute. Tonight, getting a goal was a big boost for his confidence. He is comfortable coming back here to Houston, and hopefully he can have more success here.”

HOUSTON DYNAMO WINGER ALIYU IBRAHIM

On the result:

“I am happy with the result. It feels great to get three points at home and two wins in a row. It was a great performance from the team overall.”

On returning to Houston:

“When I heard that I was returning to Houston, I was very happy. I was excited to be part of this team again. It was the first team I joined in MLS, and I am happy to be here.”

On the energy of the team moving forward:

“It was a great effort from the team. We gave everything today, and that is how we have to play every match. Everyone is happy with the win, and we have to keep this momentum going.”

On making the most of his opportunities:

“I aim to make the most of all the chances I am given. I will give my best and my everything, every time.”
