2025 in review
Berkely was traded from the North Carolina Courage to the Houston Dash in mid-September in exchange for Natalie Jacobs. During her time with the Courage, Berkely earned several accolades and developed into a strong leader—qualities she’s brought with her to Houston’s backline.
She’s quickly adapted to Fabrice Gautrat’s system, showing composure in possession and confidence pushing the ball forward from the back. In just six matches with the Dash, Malia has proven she’s comfortable on the ball and willing to join the attack when the opportunity arises. Her performances have solidified her place in the lineup and helped the Dash defense maintain its trademark toughness.
Moment of the season
Berkely made her mark with the Dash in a match against the reigning champions, the Orlando Pride. For much of the game, the two sides were evenly matched, but the momentum began to shift toward Orlando in the second half. Then, off a free kick into the Pride’s penalty area, a chaotic scramble ensued — and Berkely pounced, firing the ball into the net to give the Dash an early second-half lead.
Looking forward
As she approaches the final year of her contract in 2026, there’s a strong sense that the Dash will look to re-sign Berkely for the long term. Her experience, composure, and seamless fit within Fabrice Gautrat’s system suggest she could be a cornerstone of Houston’s backline for years to come.
