HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FABRICE GAUTRAT

On the offensive approach:

"Well, I think just making sure that we were compact to actually press them and then create counterattacks. I don't think our pressing shape was good enough (today). There were too many gaps, and look, they're a really good team that can just find the pockets in the seams. I thought we created some issues for them on our build when they tried to press us. So, there were some positives there, but I still felt we created some decent chances. I mean, if you look at the first half or that ball where Avery (Patterson) plays Kat (Rader), Kat plays it across the six. I know that doesn't count as an XG, but we should always have a runner there, and that should be a tap-in goal.”

On positives from the game:

"You're playing one of the best teams in the league. You know, and I felt like we still gave them a run for their money. I thought our game changers were really positive. Sarah’s (Puntigam) shot. I thought Clarissa (Larisey) and Soph's (Schmidt) ability to press, Khyah (Harper) for her debut, I felt those were some really, really positives for sure from the game."

On Khyah Harper’s debut:

"She was a spark plug. She had some good energy. I thought she pressed well and had some decent crosses in there and some quality opportunities. So overall, for her debut with the team, especially since she has not played that much, and for her to just come in and give a positive 40 minutes, was positive."

HOUSTON DASH GOALKEEPER JANE CAMPBELL

On the match:

“It was a tough loss. Definitely a missed opportunity with them (Gotham FC) playing away for three weeks, but I'm proud of the group, and at this stage of the season, we're taking it one game at a time. We have a big game next weekend against Kansas City (Current) at home.”

On the team’s response after the goal:

“I would have to see it back. The goal happened at what felt like 20 seconds after halftime. So, not a good start for us. That's kind of one of our goals is to not start off flat in the second half, so we're definitely going to be bummed about that. After that goal, credit to our team. I thought we responded well and really put them (Gotham FC) under pressure the whole second half. I honestly think we just ran out of time. Maybe if we had 10 more minutes, something would happen. Hats off to Shelby Hogan, I thought she did really, really well and had some really good saves towards the end of the game.”

On the team’s defense:

“The line has changed with multiple people coming in and out all season. So, whether it is Chappy (Allysha Chapman) coming in, Chappy starting, Lisa (Boattin) coming in, Lisa starting, whether it's Leah (Klenke), Malia (Berkely), Paige (Nielsen), Avery (Patterson), all of them have had incredible performances this year, and they've kept us in so many games. It's an unfortunate goal that we gave up tonight, but they've saved my back tons of times, and I'm thankful they're in front of me.”

HOUSTON DASH FORWARD KHYAH HARPER

On the match:

“It's a really good match to build on and learn from. Obviously, Gotham's (FC) one of the best teams in the league. They have some of the best players in the world. So, going into this game, we knew it was going to be a battle from the start. Obviously, it's my old team, so all props to them and how they played, but I think that we played well too. I think we had a dominant performance. Obviously, there's a lot to learn from today based on the result and chances created. That is part of the league, playing against teams that you used to play for, and I have nothing but great things to say about Gotham.”

On transferring to the Dash:

“I was really excited. It's a really young group, so I think that there's a lot to build on and a team that can continue to keep growing on all aspects of the game, and I think that's really unique compared to most teams. This team has a lot of potential, so it's really cool to come into a team that wants to have grit and drive every single day, and they're always optimistic. That's huge for me because, obviously, I'm in my second year, so I'm still learning. I'm still growing, so this environment is a perfect way to step into a new team.”

On how the team has welcomed her in:

“They've (the Dash) been amazing. Like I said, it's a young group, so it's almost hard not to fit in. They've been super welcoming, super amazing on and off the field. It's been amazing so far. I have nothing bad to say. Facilities, coaches, the whole staff have all been amazing.”

On the message from Fabrice Gautrat when entering the game:

“He (Fabrice Gautrat) said, go do your thing. Obviously, I'm still learning the team, people's tendencies, the structure, and everything about this team. He had a lot of belief in me to just go and do what I can do. Obviously, I think that I could have had a better performance, but once again, I'm still learning about the team but that will come with time. I think that this team is really special.”

On her style of play:

“I am a very attacking player, so I like the ball in behind, which this team already does, which is why I think Houston is such a good fit. I really like their style of play. I like to run in behind but also check to feet and create a lot of the play. I like to cross, can slip to people in. I'm a hardworking, gritty player and I think that fits right in with this team and the rest of the girls.”
