Nico’s Farewell
After weeks of rumors, the Dynamo confirmed today that Nico Lodeiro will play his final match with the club against St. Louis. Lodeiro is on the verge of a return to Nacional, his boyhood club in Uruguay. Lodeiro started midweek so we’ll have to see how much of an on-field send off he is given. While it didn’t work out in Houston, Lodeiro closes the chapter on a decorated career in Major League Soccer that includes two MLS Cups and a Concacaf Champions Cup title.
Stop the Skid
Losing three matches in a row, all by the score line of 3-1, has this Houston team reeling. The schedule gets much harder after this weekend, meaning the time to put and end of the losing streak is now. The last two times, however, that lower table teams came into Houston, they won. The Dynamo have to be better in general, but especially at home. Anything less than three points tonight should be seen as unacceptable.
Starting Over
St. Louis made an eye-raising hire this offseason, appointing Olof Mellberg as their head coach. Mellberg didn’t even make it to summer before he was relieved of his duties. Now St. Louis, under an interim manager, will look to restart their season. Striker Joao Klauss is finding his form and if CITY can begin clicking, they can fight their way back into a playoff race.
