Despite not being able to get the win in regulation, Houston Dynamo were able to continue their season-long unbeaten streak with a 1-1 draw and a penalty shootout victory over Minnesota United 2 on Saturday.

For Dos, young phenom Mattheo Dimareli was an unused substitute, while Arthur Sousa and Diego Gonzalez were used later in the game and didn’t feature in the starting lineup. This was a rotated Dos squad, for lack of a better term.

Despite heavy rotations, Houston actually controlled the game fairly well in terms of possession, but Minnesota did a good job of weathering the storm and actually generating more xG than the men in orange.

Minnesota got on the board first in the 25th minute thanks to Darius Randell. The 18-year-old Liberian hit a grounder past Pedro Cruz into the far post to give the home side the advantage.

Dos entered the halftime break down one, but that scoreline didn’t last long, as Austin Brummett, who had quietly been on a good scoring stretch, tied the match up in the 48th minute.

The second half didn’t bring a winner for either side, so penalties would be used to decide who earned the second point. Pedro Cruz showed up yet again in a crucial spot, as he saved three of Minnesota’s attempts, while Dos scored all three of theirs to grab the extra point.

Houston Dynamo 2 will return to action on Sunday, May 24, at 3 PM against Portland Timbers 2. Fans can watch the game for free through YouTube or the OneFootball app.
