Dynamo Make Statement with 2-0 Win in New England

The Houston Dynamo traveled to the Northeast for a matinee with the New England Revolution, a make up from a game that was postponed earlier this season. Houston came into the match unbeaten since the World Cup break and coming off two consecutive wins.
Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond was called into action early, diving low to parry away a shot from Peyton Miller after just 90 seconds. Houston was on the front foot for stretches of the first half, pinging the ball around in some good phases of possession. The Dynamo got the pay just as halftime approached.
Just seconds into first half stoppage time, Ezequiel Ponce got the ball in the New England Box and cut onto his left. He took a shot that was deflected on its way to the target. The deflection fell kindly to the feet of Guilherme and the Brazilian did what he has done all season. Guilherme slotted the ball into the bottom corner, past Matt Turner, to put Houston up 1-0 just before the break.
The Dynamo took the lead into the second half and extended it just past the hour mark. Ponce won a corner and Jack McGlynn took it from the left side. His ball found 6 foot 6 Agustin Resch all alone in the box and the Argentine powered his header into the back of the net for his first MLS goal. Houston’s lead grew to 2-0 in the 63rd minute and the Dynamo were flying.
The full time whistle blew with the Dynamo seeing out the match and taking all three points on the road with a 2-0 victory.
The win marks three wins in a row for the Dynamo and gives them 10 points from 4 matches since returning from the World Cup break. Houston is in exceptional form at the right time of year and they now sit just one point behind the San Jose Earthquakes for third place in the Western Conference. The Dynamo are just two points behind Vancouver and LAFC who are tied for first.
Houston will now return home next weekend to host the LA Galaxy. That match will kick off on August 15 at 7:40 PM.
