Revenge on the Cards?
This match means nothing for either team, with Houston and Kansas City’s seasons ending tonight. There is still pride to play for, however, especially for the Dynamo. SKC came to Shell Energy Stadium earlier this season and beat Houston, a result that was all too common for the Dynamo in 2025. Now, the Dynamo will look to head north and get a little revenge and win on the road as well. Houston did win, 2-1, at Children’s Mercy Park last season. Whether it’s pride, jobs being on the line, or just being a competitior, the Dynamo still do have some things to play for in this match.
Looking Ahead to 2026
An international window and a bye week after being eliminated from the playoffs, then having to come back for one match isn’t ideal, Ben Olsen said as much in his pre-match press conference. While 2025 didn’t go the way anyone would have wanted, could there be reason for optimism about the 2026 season? Olsen spoke about the team having cap space and roster fleixbility this offseason and the excitement that could and will bring. With that, though, comes work. They may have the ability to bring in a number of new players but they need to get the right ones. 2025 was a step back, the Dynamo can’t let 2026 be yet another stride in the wrong direction.
Not Very Sporting
2025 has been a disaster for Sporting Kansas City. They parted ways with long-time head coach Peter Vermes earlier this season after a dreadful start, and things never got any better. They are currently in the midst of a five-match losing streak and sit tied on points for last place in the Western Conference. They could even “win” the Wooden Spoon this weekend if LA Galaxy, Atlanta, and D.C. win their matches. If the Dynamo are ready to get to the offseason and hit the reset button, the SKC is ready to buy a whole new computer.
