2025 in review
In a season full of frustrations and underperforming results, Felipe Andrade emerged as one of the few shining lights for the Houston Dynamo in 2025. Originally signed on a one-year loan from Fluminense with an option to buy, Andrade began the year with Houston Dynamo 2. But it didn’t take long for his talent to stand out — just six matches with the second team were enough to signal he was ready for Major League Soccer.
Andrade worked his way into the first team and soon took over the starting left-back role, displacing veteran Franco Escobar. What separated him from others was his combination of defensive stability, smart positioning, and surprising attacking output for a defender. His confidence on the ball, willingness to push forward, and composure under pressure made him one of Houston’s most reliable performers.
Moment of the season
Andrade’s standout moment came in a key midseason match against St. Louis CITY SC, where his attacking and defensive contributions helped the Dynamo secure an important victory. His vision, composure, and ability to impact both ends of the field were on full display, earning him MLS Team of the Matchday recognition as one of the league’s top performers. The performance highlighted why he quickly became a key player and fan favorite during the 2025 campaign.
Looking forward
The Dynamo didn’t hesitate — they triggered the purchase option from Fluminense and secured Andrade on a contract through 2027, with club options through 2029. At just 23, he’s considered a core piece of the club’s future and a likely Week 1 starter heading into the 2026 season.
With his rapid growth, attacking contributions, and adaptability, Andrade projects not only as a long-term Dynamo starter but potentially a future transfer target for other clubs if his development continues on this trajectory. In a difficult season, he was a reminder that the future in Houston may still be bright.
