HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the match:
“It was a poor start by giving up an early goal, and I will look at myself on that. The tension that we have for road matches is not good enough, and that responsibility is something we need to learn quickly because going on the road in this league is difficult. In particular, against a team that is physical and hard to press. I thought they outplayed us, and they thoroughly deserved the win. We had four or five really good chances, and there is a responsibility that comes along with that as well. When we have a chance to finish a play, we have to do that. But when you go on the road and give up two early goals against Colorado at this altitude, it is tricky to chase the game. We fought back at times, and there were a lot of goals out there for us. We just have to get back to work, both from a coaching and player standpoint. Our two away matches have been very poor, which is unacceptable and not something I am going to live with.”
On the quick turnaround and upcoming schedule:
“It is great to have a quick turnaround. Let’s go and get another game on here. We had a good meeting in the locker room right now, and the message is clear. We will review this game and double down on our messaging, but we will also go after the U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday. This is still early in the season, and this is a group with new players. These are not excuses, they are just realities. We are figuring out our identity still, and we still have a few players down our spine out. We will see who steps up. We will keep plugging away and get back to work.”
On Guilherme’s performance:
“Guilherme was everywhere and was a huge bright spot tonight. He is a joy to watch, he is fearless and he plays the right way. It is nice to have him, and he is going to be a great player for this Club. There were also a few other players that had good nights, but that is not going to be enough. Everybody has to be at a really high level. As much as we are going after ourselves, Colorado also played really well. They are a complex team, and they played a really good game. But again, giving up two goals early is not a place you want to live.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO DEFENDER ERIK SVIATCHENKO
On the result:
“We were definitely prepared, that is no excuse, but it was not a good feeling after conceding an early goal five minutes in. I am pretty annoyed by the performance in general and conceding six goals is an embarrassment for everyone. We have to look into why we conceded those goals and do better. There were shots on target that we should have scored, four or five goals, but when you concede six goals it is not good enough.”
On moving forward:
“There is two ways of looking at it. A quick turnaround is a positive opportunity to move forward. We will train hard to start the week and can go out to bounce back in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday. On the other hand, we are aware that we are in a situation where we have not won in three matches. We want to avoid those kinds of runs. We need to build momentum and stay positive. That is the way we will win games. If we win two matches in a row, the momentum starts. Right now, it is about regrouping, dissecting the game and getting better. It is as simple as that.”
