HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the result:
“We are disappointed for the Dynamo fans that traveled. It was such a good turnout, and we know what a Texas Derby means to them and us. There was a lot of good, including going forward and scoring three goals away. Defensively, we were naïve and gave up poor goals. Dallas earned the goals, and they are a hardworking, scrappy team that is dangerous in the box, especially when we are down a man. They are goals that we look back on as preventable if we are doing the right things. The red cards are an issue, so that is something we have to deal with. Ultimately, Dallas made more plays than we did tonight, but we are still learning about ourselves, and we are moving forward.”
On Guilherme’s start to the season:
“We know Guilherme can make plays. He is a special talent and knows how to score goals, so that is nice to have in the group. It was nice to convert a set piece, which has been something we have talked about being more dangerous on. Even with everything that happened tonight and being down a man, we still had a good chance from (Ondřej) Lingr to tie this game up. This is MLS. It is hard, and you have to make plays. They made one more than us.”
On his optimism for the season ahead:
“I am very optimistic. We need to continue to add to this group, but overall, we have guys that can make plays. We are scoring goals in a consistent way, and for the most part, we have been good defensively. Hopefully, this was just a blip that we can learn from and take some lessons from going forward. Now we have a bye week, so we have to sit on this for a little bit, but we will get back to being better and continuing to grow.”
On the team coming together:
“It takes time, and it is going to get there. You are going to have good days and bad days in this. Today was a day where there was some good and some bad, and in the end, we are not able to make the plays that mattered to get a difficult result on the road.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO MIDFIELDER LAWRENCE ENNALI
On the result:
“We scored three goals away, but we also conceded four goals and received another red card. That is not how we are going to win games in this league, so we have to look back at this game and learn from it.”
On his goal:
“The pass that Guilherme made on my goal was unbelievable. I could not believe it mid-action. It was a great ball, I had a nice touch, and then we scored. The two of us are continuing to build a good connection. This goal was about me making the run and him being so good with the ball.”
On his connection with Guilherme:
“Guilherme is always telling me to make runs in practice because I am fast. Once I get up to speed, nobody can stop me. We made it work today, and hopefully there is more coming in the future. Guilherme is a fantastic player, who is technical and gifted. With his vision, I just have to believe that the ball is coming, and I will have scoring opportunities in front of goal.”
On the positive takeaways from the match:
“We scored three goals away in a derby, so that is very positive. That was a problem last season, but we have so much offensive quality now that every team needs to be scared when we come to their house.”
