Tough Road Trip
Tonight is the first of two matches for the Dynamo in the Pacific Northwest in five days, with a game in Portland on Sunday. Both places are hard to play, especially so for Houston. The Dynamo have never won in Seattle, in any competitions. They drew 0-0 there last season and in the 2024 playoffs, so they haven’t lost a match in the Emerald City since 2024. Houston has one three times in Portland, last doing it in 2023 in Ben Olsen’s first season. With the run of form the Dynamo are currently in, a win feels unlikely in these two touch road fixtures. But getting another draw, while maybe annoying, would be a good result, probably in both matches.
Rotation Likely
If you scroll down you’ll notice that both Hector Herrera and Guilherme are listed on the availability report for this match, both questionable with lower body injuries. That makes it more than likely that both will be out against Seattle. The Dynamo were likely going to need to rotate with another three-match week and it looks like tonight will be a chance for two of Houston’s veteran stars to rest. With those two probably not going to play, Marcelo Saracchi out, and Felipe Andrade still probably not ready to play, there will be multiple places available on the team sheet. Could youngsters like Matthew Arana and Gilberto Rivera get into the starting eleven? Will more Dos players make the bench with their season now over? It could be an interesting lineup tonight when the team posts the 20 player roster for the match.
Typical Sounders
The Sounders are doing what they tend to do every season, with great success. Seattle seemingly sleepwalks through the early part of the season and then turns things on in the summer. The Sounders are up to 7th place in the Western Conference with just one loss since August 19. It should come as no surprise that this year’s turnaround coincided with Seattle signing striker Dejan Joveljic from Sporting Kansas City in late August. The Serbian has five goals in eight games for the Sounders and has helped transform their attack, fitting in perfectly alongside Jordan Morris, Albert Rusnak, and Jesus Ferreira.
Houston Dynamo FC – Out: Jimmy Maurer (back), Marcelo Saracchi (lower body); Questionable: Felipe Andrade (lower body), Guilherme (lower body), Hector Herrera (lower body)
Seattle Sounders FC – Out: Pedro de la Vega (quad), Yeimar Gomez Andrade (hamstring), Nikola Petkovic (knee); Questionable: Danny Musovski (head), Paul Rothrock (hamstring)
