The Houston Dynamo fell 2-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Jonathan Bond - 6

Bond made two saves in this match and neither of the goals were his fault. San Jose probably should have scored more.

Griffin Dorsey - 4

Dorsey made a great run and pass to set up Junior Urso in the first half but his defending was poor. He got outjumped by Daniel Munie on what turned out to be the winning goal.

Antonio Carlos - 7

His first goal for the club got a little help from the goalkeeper but came in a losing effort. He’s been solid in the back since joining the Dynamo and looks to now be a mainstay in the starting eleven.

Pablo Ortiz - N/A

An injury ended his night after just 13 minutes. It’s the latest in what seems to be a cursed season for the Houston back line in 2025.

Felipe Andrade - 7

Felipe is great on the ball and his passing has been excellent, completing 44 of 47 on Saturday night. His defense was strong in this match as well with 4 interceptions and 4 clearances.

Artur - 5

It was a very Artur game from the captain. He didn’t do much defensively and San Jose’s new signing Ronaldo Vieira outshined him in the second half.

Junior Urso - 5

Urso should have scored in the first half after driving into the box and latching on to Dorsey’s pass. He made way for more attacking options after an hour.

Sebastian Kowalczyk - 5

Kowalczyk remains such a confusing player at times. He only had 20 touches in his 57 minutes on the field and just was not involved enough in the attack.

Jack McGlynn - 7

He picked up the assist on Antonio Carlos’ goal and also had 4 shot-creating actions. Unfortunately for the Dynamo, he is the only real creative player for much of matches.

Ondrej Lingr - 5

Lingr’s memorable debut seems like so long ago now. Like Kowalczyk, Lingrwas not involved as much as the Dynamo needed with just 29 touches in 81 minutes.

Ezequiel Ponce - 3

The Dynamo’s DP striker had 1 more shot than he did yellow cards in this match. He scored a goal that was well offside but is not carrying his weight.

Substitutes

Ethan Bartlow - 5

Bartlow had to replace Ortiz after his early injury. He was on the ball a lot and trying to connect passes, which he have seen him do a lot this season.

Lawrence Ennali - 6

With the Dynamo down a goal, Ennali got 30+ minutes of action Saturday. He looked his usual, lively self but couldn’t produce anything dangerous.

Duane Holmes - 6

Holmes came in with Ennali to try and pull the game back for the Dynamo. The two of them looked confident on the ball and it probably should lead to more minutes for them going forward.

Amine Bassi and Toyosi Olusanya - N/A

Both came on to find an equalizer that never came during their short time on the pitch.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-4

Ortiz’s early injury put a wrench in plans and then falling behind two goals threw any game plan out the window. With that being said, they still haven’t figured out the best combination of players in the attack, which is more than troubling at this stage of the season.
