Six Pointer

The Dynamo come into tonight’s match in 12th place in the Western Conference, but just three points behind San Jose who are in 9th place, the final playoff spot. This match is a true six pointer, where the winner not only picks up three points, but denies the other team any three points. Head coach Ben Olsen spoke on Friday about how important this game is and how a draw is not good enough. The Dynamo know they must win this game. A loss tonight could all but end the chance at qualifying for the playoffs.

The Super Sub

After starting against Tigres in the Leagues Cup opener, Lawrence Ennali’s last four appearances for the Dynamo have been off the bench. The German has fit into the “super-sub” role, a term that refers to a player who regularly comes off the bench and makes an impact. Ennali helped set up the equalizer in Vancouver and his pace and directness give opposing defenses fits late in games when legs are tired. Olsen spoke about Ennali’s willingness to start, as is the case with any player, but wants to see hom bring to games for a full shift what he does in his shorter appearances. With tonight’s match expected to be a high-scoring affair, look for Ennali to once again be called on for a spark late in the game.

Quake and Bake

San Jose is among one of the highest scoring teams in Major League Soccer. They also give up a lot of goals. That was evident in the first meeting between these two teams this season that ended in a 3-3 draw. Josef Martinez seems to have found a Fountain of Youth in San Jose and his strike partner, Cristian Arango, is always a menace. Couple them with playmaker Cristian Espinoza and you can see how dangerous these Earthquakes can be.
