As Houston Dynamo FC get set to host Louisville City in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup, they face a USL Championship side brimming with attacking quality and multiple ways to break opponents down. Louisville’s threat isn’t one dimensional, it comes from a dynamic mix of creativity, control, and finishing, with these three players driving it all as they chase a statement upset.
Taylor Davila
The engine in the middle for Louisville, Davila is a calm and intelligent playmaker who keeps everything ticking. The former RGVFC midfielder is comfortable on the ball, picks the right passes, and helps control the rhythm of the game while quietly creating chances for others, as evidenced by his three assists this season and one in the USOC upset over Austin FC.
Jansen Wilson
Wilson brings a physical, direct edge to the attack. He’s always looking to get on the end of chances, whether it’s inside the box or in transition, and his work rate makes him a constant presence for opposing defenders. He can play anywhere in offensive third and already has three goals and two assists for Louisville this season.
Ray Serrano
Another young attacker, Serrano adds a more creative and fluid element up top. The former Seattle Sounders Academy product likes to drift into space, combine with teammates, and use his movement to open up defenses, making him a dangerous complementary piece in the attack. Serrano scored on Saturday in Louisville’s win over Fort Wayne in the USL Cup.
